PERSONAL BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Mitzi G. Gorman, CPCS, CPMSM, Credentialing Specialist and CEO of Credentialing Plus, credentials verification and consulting service (CVS) based in Knoxville, TN. Mitzi has more than fifteen years experience working in the health care industry starting in behavioral health and then moving into the medical – surgical setting. She has successfully led several JCAHO surveys of medical staff services over the past ten years in acute care hospital settings, as well as, ambulatory surgery centers and mental health centers. She established the entire credentialing process for several ambulatory surgery centers and provided support for their initial JCAHO surveys. She has been consultant to several hospitals across the country over the past couple of years; serving as advisor in establishing effective credentialing processes to improve the overall functioning of the medical staff office, as well as, auditing of credentials files and assisting in preparation for their JCAHO surveys.
In June, 1996, Mitzi received her CPCS certification from the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS). The following year she received the CMSC certification. She maintains those certifications by keeping abreast of current credentialing issues through various venues including publications and programs offered by NAMSS, TAMSS, JCAHO, NCQA, AAAHC, and numerous other professional support programs.
Over the past several years Mitzi has served on the NAMSS Education Council as Independent Study Program Team Leader and as a member of the NAMSS Recognition Task Force in 2000. She served as President of the Tennessee Association of Medical Staff Services (TAMSS) from 1999 to 2001, President-Elect 1998 - 1999, website editor 1999 - present. She also has served as President, President-Elect, Secretary, and newsletter editor, and historian/librarian for the Knoxville chapter of medical staff professionals. In 1999, Mitzi was voted “Woman of the Year” for her service to her local chapter of the American Business Women Association (ABWA).
